to retrace the development and formation of English negation nowa-

days I have distinquished the main principles of its functioning. As any

linguistic category , negation is able to use some special means of its

expressing and it submits to some rules of usage in analytical English.

The research of the material showed that a large number

of linquists investigate this phenomenon. Studying English, especially the

English lexics, grammar, and syntax needs a more detailed discussion

of this linguistic paradigm.



Speaking English requires of a person not only ability to

form the utterance-affirmation correctly but it also means that a

speaker has to change his statement into negative utterance. Teaching

a foreign language consists not only in reading and writing skills but

first of all in apprehending the target language and his ability to

express one’ s own thoughts and experience by means of the langua-
